Attractions and Activities in Daylesford

Daylesford offers a variety of attractions and activities, many are unique to the region.

For more than a century people have flocked to Daylesford, Hepburn Springs and the surrounding spa country in search of rest and reinvigoration. Every massage, facial and mineral spa is infused with the region's tranquil atmosphere.

The region boasts the largest concentration of naturally occurring mineral springs in Australia. With around 70 springs in the Daylesford region, visitors come to drink the variety of mineral waters while others prefer to sit, splash or relax in a mineral spa.

Some great suggestions:

• Enjoy a cool summer retreat to the local botanic gardens, offering a panoramic view over Daylesford from the top of Wombat Hill.

• Purchase high-quality local craft on display at the award-winning Convent Gallery.

• Sink to the bottom of a spa bath with a blend of relaxing essential oils at the Hepburn Spa, or one of the many other quality spa and natural therapy centres. There are over 50 different natural therapies available in the area.

• Take the Tipperary Walking Track and explore Hepburn Regional Park and numerous natural springs.

• Enjoy fine dining at the famous Lake House Restaurant or one of the other high-quality dining establishments in the area. Many can be found in the Age Good Food Guide or the Age Cheap Eats Guide.

• For families, there’s plenty to see and do. On Sundays, vintage railway trips operate from Daylesford Station and travel through the Wombat State Forest.

• Have breakfast at the Boathouse Café by the lake, hire a boat, or feed the ducks. As well, horse riders can venture out on local trails for picnic rides.

While visiting Daylesford why not take a short trip, just 10 minutes drive north to Mount Franklin. The crater of this extinct volcano offers the perfect environment for a picnic. There are BBQ and picnic facilities (water and toilets) in the crater, as well as numerous scenic walks.

One of the best of these walks leads to the panoramic views offered from the summit. You can also drive to the summit if you are feeling slightly less energetic, either way the views of the surrounding landscape are well worth seeing. If you look closely on the drive you will be able to spot the Lavandula lavender farm and Tinetti’s Cricket Willow.

If you are visiting the area during Autumn, then a trip to Mount Franklin is a must as the canopy of trees in the crater provide an amazing sight, setting the surrounds ablaze in the colours of the season.

No matter what your interests, you are sure to find plenty of things to do during your stay in Daylesford.
